City of Kettering Battalion Chief to become Liberty Township’s 2nd Fire Chief
The Liberty Township Board of Trustees will appoint Ethan Klussman as the new Liberty Township Fire Chief at their September 5th Trustee Meeting. Klussman will become only the 2nd full-time FireChief in Liberty Township’s history. Klussman is a 21-year veteran of the fire service, working with a combination department in the City of Kettering since 1996. He rose through the ranks from firefighter/paramedic to Fire Captain and most recently to Battalion Chief. Klussman is replacing Paul Stumpf who announced his 2017 retirement last year after serving the Liberty Township community for 45 years.
“As a Board, we believe Ethan demonstrates the knowledge and initiative to lead our Fire Department into the future and to provide top notch service to our residents and businesses,” said Christine Matacic, President, Liberty Township Board of Trustees.
“Ethan has grown up in the area providing him with a familiarity that will allow him to hit the ground running. We believe his passion for the fire service is an asset for serving our growing community,” said Tom Farrell, Vice President, Liberty Township Board of Trustees.
Klussman’s first day will be September 25th although he looks forward to some opportunities to get to know the LTFD members prior to his start date. Chief Stumpf’s last day is still being determined. An open house will take place prior to his last day to celebrate his years of service and dedication to Liberty Township.
“I’m excited to join the Liberty Township Fire Department in this pivotal time as it strives to meet the growing needs of the community. I’m looking forward to serving the residents and businesses of Liberty Township and leading an incredible staff of dedicated professionals, as well as being part of a leadership team that is passionate about providing exceptional service,” said Klussman.
“Ethan brings a lot of energy and expertise to the position and will do a fantastic job leading our dedicated team through this transition,” said Kristen Bitonte, Township Administrator.
“We are eager to have him join our team and are excited about the future of the Fire Department under Ethan’s leadership,” said Steve Schramm, Trustee, Liberty Township Board of Trustees.
