About Planning & Zoning
The Liberty Township Zoning Department is available to assist you in meeting the zoning requirements set forth in the Liberty Township Zoning Resolution. Effective zoning practices protect property values and contribute to a community's quality of life. When planning any type of construction, always consider whether a Zoning Certificate is required.
Zoning Certificates
Zoning Certificates are necessary for the following projects. This is a partial list. Please contact the Zoning Department if you are unsure if your project requires a permit.
- Building addition
- Building remodeling (including basement finishes)
- Deck
- Fence
- Garage (attached or detached)
- Gazebo / Pergola
- Home Occupation
- New commercial construction
- New residential construction
- Pole barn
- Pools (above and in-ground)
- Retaining wall (3 feet in height and over)
- Shed or storage building
- Sign (ground, wall, temporary)
Applications
The Zoning Department processes applications for zoning certificates from developers, builders, contractors, and homeowners. With the exclusion of fences and accessory structures under 200 square feet, all applications that come through the Liberty Township Zoning Department, must then be taken to the Butler County Department of Building and Zoning by the applicant for further issuing of permits. The turnover-around rate for Liberty Township Zoning Certificates for residential uses is typically three business days. Print off and fill out our Zoning Certificate Application.
